How much do you love the world of wine?
It's difficult to describe the level of this passion. I have never loved anything more and I am happiest when surrounded by wine (maps, tastings, cellars, nerdy people...).
Do you have any wine-related goals?
In my studies, I am currently working towards the WSET diploma, which is the last step before one can apply to the Master of Wine (MW) program. I have been dreaming about becoming a Master since I was 17 years old, so I am pretty excited to continue on my current path.
A lighter, but equally exciting dream of mine is to have a 3D topographical map for every major wine region because they make it SO MUCH easier to understand how geography makes each region unique. I love all maps but topographical ones...they are something else.
How many bottles of wine would you say you drink in a week?
In 1-3 ounce portions of different wines, I probably drink (and spit) 4-6 bottles a week.
In terms of actually drinking wine, I don't really do that, for 4 different (really personal) reasons:
It allows me to be positive that I don't just love wine because it is an intoxicant.
If I became an alcoholic and had to stay away from wine...the thought is just not possible for me to have.
I am really busy and often up early. I have university, somm-ing, and am studying wine, so there is a lot on the go.
This may sound weird, but I am so infatuated by wine and all there is to learn about it that I see it more as a form of art and not at all as an escape from sobriety.
I am unique in this and some think it isn't possible to truly be part of the wine world without drinking, but for now, this works for me and allows me to be on my game 100% of the time. I am not saying never, just not right now:)
Besides wine, what do you love?
I love cycling, guitar, drawing and my 3 amazing brothers!!
